DAVID POLANSKY CONCERT
On Friday, May 2nd, all of the children will be walking to the Village for an intergenerational concert starring David Polansky. This has become an annual favorite for children, teachers, and Villagers.
FAMILY BARBECUE NIGHT
On Thursday, May 8th, we will be holding our annual barbecue/ potluck dinner from 5:00-7:00 on the playground. This year, we are adding an art show inside the school to the festivities. We will be serving barbecue chicken and pizza, and we ask that you sign up to bring in a dessert (TK); a salad or side dish (4’s), and beverages or chips (3’s). Please see the sign-up sheets in each of the classrooms. Cost is $20 per family (cash please), and this will include a raffle ticket to win a Rockwell “masterpiece”. There will be one painting raffled from each classroom.
There are envelopes available in the red box on top of the cubbies by the driveway door. Please make sure to write your name and the number of people attending on the envelope.
LIL’ FOLK FARM
On Monday, May 12th, Lil’ Folk Farm will be bringing some small farm animals for the children to pet as well as a pony for the children to ride. In the past they have also brought a llama. Each classroom will get to visit with the animals for thirty minutes. Should be a lot of fun!
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
On Friday, May 24th, we will have our traditional All School End-of-the-year Family Picnic at 11:30 on the playground. This will be preceded in the Four-Year-Old class and the Transition Kindergarten by graduation ceremonies. Please check with your child’s teachers for the exact times. All three classrooms are invited to bring a blanket and picnic lunch and join us on the playground. (There is no extended day program that day.) We look forward to seeing all of you there!
On Tuesday, May 13th our 3-year-olds will spend a little time in the 4-year-old class with Mrs. Hurwitz and Mrs. Cantin to get a “sneak peak” of the year to come. They will hear a story and have snack with their teachers-to-be. Our fours will have the pleasure of doing the same with their former teachers, Mrs. Lucey and Mrs. Ross. As of right now, there are two new children joining the fours next year and they will be invited to visit at that time as well.
We would be happy to recycle your 6-8 ounce yogurt cups. We use them for paint, glue, and other fun art activities. So, please think of us after you finish your next yogurt.
STUDENTS AND VILLAGE VOLUNTEERS
We have been blessed to have a wonderful volunteer from Lasell Village once again this year, Mrs. Eastman. We would like to thank her for her many contributions to our program. Just her presence in the 3-year-old classroom has benefited both the teachers and the children.
We would also like to thank all of the Lasell students who volunteered, did pre-practicums, or who were employed at Rockwell this year. They have added such a nice dimension to our program, and the children (and teachers) have really enjoyed having them. They are: Kelsey Williams, Taylor Witherbee, Katrina Kataftos, Cassie Wadden, Emilie Mis, Mike Bomberg, McKenzie Bonnette, Melanie Cooper, Erica Burton, and Katelyn Dombrowski. We will miss them and hope they consider returning in the fall.
This month, we are welcoming a new student who will be doing her intership with us from Milton Academy. Her name is Victoria Parker and she will be helping out in all classrooms.
We would like to thank those of you who filled out the survey for the Newton Community Partnerships. We greatly appreciate your taking the time to do this.
I would like to gently remind you that summer program balances are now due. Summer program begins on June 2nd and goes through June 27th.
Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11 from 10am-5pm: Kids Funfest
Please see flyer on playground door. There are also extra flyers available by the middle driveway door.
Please see flyers posted on the playground door for any new community event information that we receive.
It is hard to believe that the school year is almost over. It has been our pleasure to love, learn, play, and work with your children. We are grateful for your kind and generous support throughout the year. We wish all of the children who are going off to new schools happy, healthy and successful school years, and look forward to seeing our returning children in the fall.
