Lasell Hosts All for Haiti
Building on the campus-wide response to the devastating Haiti earthquake in January 2010, students and faculty gathered in Yamawaki Auditorium on Friday, October 22, 2010 for the All for Haiti fundraising event which was planned and organized by Lasell College junior, Jean Leger, with support from the Center for Community-Based Learning staff. The event was co-sponsored by the Donahue Institute for Public Life and Values, Sodexo, the Center for Spiritual Life, What's the Word, and Lasell College Radio.
Fifteen performers from Lasell College and the surrounding community showcased their talents under the large Haitian flag hanging onstage. The evening featured a range of visual and performing arts including poetry, dance, song and rap. There were also educational messages delivered by the Peer Health Educators, Professor Linda Bucci's Honors 101 course, and faculty members Stephanie Athey and Lydia Pittman, who shared photos and stories from their recent travels to Haiti in August.
The 75 attendees contributed generously to the cause, and more than $500 was raised the sale of handmade bracelets, audience collections, and a nominal admission fee to the event. All for Haiti not only entertained the audience, but also served as a powerful reminder of the devastation left by the earthquake in Haiti, and continued need for support.
