Interlibrary Loan

When the Brennan Library does not own an item, we can request it from another library. Patrons can use the library catalog and use the blue "request" button to order materials owned at other Minuteman libraries. Alternatively, Lasell patrons may fill out ILL forms and the library staff will request materials to be sent over to Lasell.

Turnaround time:
Turnaround time for ILL requests varies and cannot be guaranteed, since it depends largely on factors beyond our control such as shipping time, and response speed of other libraries. Sometimes articles arrive the very same day via email and books arrive the next day from fellow Minuteman libraries, and other times requests take a few weeks due to slow shipping, or difficulty finding a lender.

Start your research early! Submit your ILL requests in advance!

Library Cards
The Lasell "Torch Card" is also your library card for the Brennan Library and all the other Minuteman Libraries. All students must have a valid student ID in order to check out materials. Patrons need a library card number (2301500_ _ _ _ _ _ _ ) to access many of our online databases and to request materials online from other libraries.

If you are a member of the Lasell community and do not yet have a valid library card, fill out this form online and we will enter you into our system:

Loan Periods, Renewals, and Limits:
Books- (adult or children's)- 3 weeks
DVDs- 1 week
Curriculum Library materials- 1 week
Interlibrary loan books- varies
Magazines and newspapers- library use only
Reference books- library use only

An item may be renewed UNLESS there is a prior request for it. Patrons can renew some materials online by going into the catalog and logging into "my account".

In order to make sure there are sufficient materials available for our students, we have established the following circulation policies:
  • A patron may borrow up to 5 items on any one subject at a time.
  • A patron may borrow a total of 10 items per day.

  • Fines, Charges, Penalties

Lasell students are charged fines only for the following:

  • Overdue Lasell material returned at other MLN libraries
  • Overdue materials borrowed from other libraries
  • Overdue reserve items
    • If a student has outstanding fines or overdue materials in the Minuteman Library Network, their borrowing privileges are suspended until their record is cleared. Neither transcripts nor grades will be given to students who have not cleared up their library record, and they will not be allowed to register for classes for the next semester. The Academic Integrity Policy of the Student Handbook describes the consequences for vandalism or theft of library materials.

    Reserve Room

Lasell faculty may request to have items placed on reserve. Reserve materials circulate for two hours and cannot leave the library. Items owned by the Brennan Library, and professor's personal copies of items can go on reserve, but materials borrowed from other libraries cannot go on reserve. The reserve room also has a selection of instructional VHS and DVD films kept on permanent reserve due to high demand among our faculty.

To put something on closed reserve, bring it to a Librarian with a note indicating your name and the course name and number it will be used for.

Search the reserve room - click here to search our online catalog- select "course" or "instructor" (by last name) to look for items on reserve.
