Smarthinking

Lasell College and the Academic Achievement Center (AAC) have partnered with Smarthinking, an online tutoring service that provides convenient 24 hours a day, 7 days a week access to trained online tutors. This service is free of charge to all Lasell students, and offers supports in writing (grammar and citation review, various content areas), math (algebra, statistics, geometry, calculus), accounting and business. Students can access Smarthinking directly through Moodle, our online course-management system, and choose from several options including:

  • On-demand or scheduled chat-room tutoring: Students engage with a tutor in a real-time chat session and can make use of an available virtual whiteboard technology, accessible on any computer or mobile device.
  • Writing Lab: Students can submit a draft of a written assignment to a writing tutor who will, within 24-28 hours, provide feedback regarding the thesis, content development, organization, introduction/conclusion, grammar mechanics and/or general flow.

Students can make the most of the academic supports at Lasell by scheduling one-on-one sessions with tutors at the AAC (Brennan Room 106) during our regular hours throughout the academic year, along with getting assistance from Smarthinking at other times when our tutors may not be available. The AAC provides free academic assistance to all Lasell students, whether they want some extra help studying, could use help starting a research paper, or need more intensive assistance in a specific content area. Our tutors help students integrate and apply effective study skills, learning strategies, active reading/note-taking, time management and organization skills to their specific courses.
