First Year Success Series

The First Year Success Series involves new students in a sequence of workshops and seminars that facilitate connection with Lasell College programs and services designed to enhance personal academic and career development. These seminars, are led by various faculty and staff or other students, include topics such as:

Communication Skills
The Communication Skills Workshop is designed to give students a chance to practice speaking in front of a small number of people in a low risk situation. In addition, students get an overview of the elements of public speaking (content, organization, and delivery) and get a chance to ask questions.

Computer Literacy Boot Camp
Join this one hour session to flex your technology muscles in a sprint towards producing a professionally developed email; run through Excel functions and chart options; and jumpstart with PowerPoint presentations as you strengthen you Moodle skills.

Financial Wellness 101
Now that you are at college, handling your financial decisions have become more your own responsibility. You need to be careful of the pitfalls of certain decisions that can affect you for years after you graduate from school. Come to this session to learn how to make good financial decisions, avoid the bad ones, and what the difference is between good and bad debt. If you start making healthy, wise money decisions now, you won't have to worry so much later.

Stress Management
Stress is part of living, and coming to college means adjusting to a new life. Learning how to better manage the changes and stress improves mood, health, relationships - and chances of cusses in college. The Staff of the Counseling Center will lead this interactive workshop which includes discussion, tips, and relaxation exercises.

Study Abroad Information Session
Are you interested in studying abroad? Do you have questions about where and when you can go? If you answered "yes", "maybe", or even "I'm not sure" to any of these questions, then this information session is for you! The Coordinator of International Services will give a brief overview of study abroad at Lasell and then a panel of Lasell students who have previously studied abroad will talk about how they decided to study abroad, where they studied abroad, what they learned from the experience, and why they recommend that you should go abroad too! There will be time for questions and answers throughout the session, so bring your questions!

"Why The ‘Meaning of Life' Matters in Your Career
What does your "life purpose" have to do with your job? Join this interactive workshop to explore why - and how - what you believe about yourself makes a difference in your life.
